Raleigh Grifter Mk1 in Steel Blue find

Picked this up earlier today. Advertised as the above on the Bay... not sure at the moment what I'll do. Rear wheel is a Jan 72.. Chopper? The frame has had a hard life, its frayed at the top of the forks. Which them selves are Mk2 stars.
Chrome looks like it will clean up ok. Front wheel isn't genuine either. All foam in good condition tho :-D

That's a real ol bitza, Chopper rear wheel, Stars forks and all on a Mk1. Still, too good to break. Resto number in the pipe line?

I'll strip it down clean it up a bit and see what I'm left with... doesn't look favorable

they can be saved, but its whether you think its worth it or not

Not for me. Genuine front wheel and genuine forks. Proper tyres. Replace the pedals. Paint and decals. Are required, if the frame can be repaired. Too much for me. Breaking it down for spares.

I looked at your photo of the frame area, sorry for being slow but i don't know what i'm looking at that results in the frame being kippered.
Also seeing as how i saved mine from nay on nothing this must be worthy of surviving

I've now removed the handle bars, and tightened the fork stem.. still no luck. :-(

Only a small amount of damage to the foam. Alittle more cleaning on the post and up for grabs.. :-)

is the front rim any good in terms of looking like a grifter one? also what is the rear wheel like? (rim and spokes really as i'd be looking to change the hub) cheers

Front wheel... chrome is cleaning up ok. Axle is alloy.

Although I'm breaking this Grifter up for spares/sell. It ain't stopping me putting a smile on my face, cleaning and repainting the bits n pieces. And generally enjoying saving whats worth saving, either for myself or somebody else...
Need to delve into the world of Tiger seal. A couple splits but the foam is all there.
