Sorry but its the XL again, and I know its summer not winter but I found this photo while looking for something else and thought I'd share it. you can imagine how rusty it got after riding around in the snow on it. Its a cracking bike in the white stuff though

Been through some rather deep snow on this one, and heavy rain, but only my mountain bike got ridden through floodwater on my way to and from work early this year I feel I should point out the original rear reflector is in a safe place in my house, the bike actually has a new Hella one similar to the original but widely available. Perfect for me as I don't trust people not to steal it

Deffo! got mine for £32 a couple of years ago. Handlebar pad was missing, brakes were awful and the tyres were both worn through. Still rode it home though. After a minimal amount of work it has survived being used and abused in all weathers and me skidding off in the ice. Also it gets cleaned up often and displayed at the National Tramway Museum once a year. Brilliant bike and worth every penny

To be honest I was quite surprised at how good it was when I went to collect it, apart from the tyres, brakes and a thick layer of dust of course. Glad it was ok really as I had walked quite some distance to get to where the guy lived and didn't want to walk all the way back again LOL

I've only had one major problem with the XL, at the start of last year I was on my way to my mates house and hit a patch of ice while turning a corner. The bike fell on its right hand side, the toggle chain snapped and managed to hook itself over the end of the wheel nut, which managed to hold it in 1st gear all the way home! Alas when the grazes on my knees healed up I couldn't walk properly despite having been able to ride the bike... Since then I have never taken a corner quickly on it just in case it loses grip, don't want that happening again as its flipping painful

I love riding bikes in the snow and the only bike I've found to be better than a Grifter is my severely shoddy cheapo dual suspension mountain bike, doesn't like ice too much though, or floods for that matter
