Hey all! New to this forum! Moved to oz in 2008 - found this in a pile of junk on the roadside waiting to be dumped. Never knew grifters made it this far! Always wanted one as a kid - finally got one! Looking into cleaning up and restoring, but parts are hard to come by. Anyone shed any light on how I can go about researching where this came from? Any idea on spare parts? Cheers Chris

Hi and welcome to the forum Chris. Great find, shame someone didn't want it anymore. Getting parts in oz might be a little difficult. If you give us the frame number (located on the downtube under the seat) we can give you a year and month made. First thing to do is strip it all down, clean up all the good parts and make a list of ones you need. If you need help on what you need just ask. Unless your very lucky you might have to import the parts over.

Think I've found the frame number - does this help with identification?

Parts in oz are looking to be hard to find - doesn't look like they were sold out here - more likely an expat brought it out. Definately need a foam handlebar covet .... Where the hell am I gonna get one of them??

You have an august 1977 Mk1, its the second batch of Mk1s without the extra rear bridge and pointed rear dropouts (sounds a bit nerdy but still good to know!) lol You might have to buy another set of handlebars unless someone if just selling a pad! From the pics it looks like you need a new cable set, plastic chain guard, some new supergrip tyres and a twistgrip set. Not sure what else until you've stripped and cleaned the other parts. Great little project. Please take loads of before and after pics. If you need help getting the parts I'm sure we can help but postage will be expensive.

It does look like it has the second bridge and pointed drop outs when you zoom in?

Ok ok lads I didn't look at the pics properly only the frame numbers! I just checked it out on photobucket and it indeed has the second bridge and pointed rear dropouts. So you have yourself an early Pre march 77 stock room bike with all the early goodies on it just stamped up at a later date. Kal had a 78 Mk1 with all the early stuff on it too. The good thing about the foam missing off the handlebars is if there stuck they can always be cut off at the top and just replaced.
