That's always the dilemma when you do a project, you keep it original and replace the bad/broken parts with original ones or you go all out and restore it. Depends what your looking for. I started off totally restoring my bikes back to mint which cost a fortune and now I've gone on to preserving them using original (sometimes nos parts) and keeping the original paintwork. Some people love the original patina, some love mint. I love both!

Yes, it will be just a cleaning of the frame, and see how it goes.. I didnt touch the frame yet... Started from small parts. By the way, i found 2 good wheels, and i will remove the spokes, to replace mine. They are same size, and they are in very good condition, i cleaned and polished half of them.. By the way, how can i remove this part, with the rear chain wheel, to free up the rear spokes and metal cover?? Is it screwed? Clockwise or opposite?

I suppose i must hit it in one direction (which??) but this is difficult because of the metal protector...

clip is Silver ring on front, quite big it fits round outside of cog get a small thin bladed screw driver and gently prise it off, it my spring off quite fast you will see a small gap , its almost like a big c clip it does not need to hit off it does not screw on, take the clip off now and it should fall apart into pieces

lol I've never seen a spoke protector removed like that!! I would suggest as your a newbee to take the parts off and place them on the work bench in the order they were removed, that way they will be easy to refit when you get a replacement spoke protector (maybe take a pic on your phone then you have it for future ref)
